2015 Looney Tunes: Classic Scenes Silver Coloured Coins

2015 Looney Tunes Classic Scenes Silver Coloured Coins

Every year, the Royal Canadian Mint releases various commemorative and specially designed coins. These celebrate historical events, anniversaries, culture and other things that matter to Canadians. Several of the 2015 Royal Canadian Mint coins featured Looney Tunes characters. These make great collectibles that can work well as gifts or entertaining additions to your own collection.

Looney Tunes

This beloved animated show ran from 1930 to 1969, the golden age of American animation. It introduced some of the most recognizable characters in animated television, such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Road Runner and more. The impact of this Warner Bros series has lasted well beyond its original run.

Looney Tunes Classic Scenes 3-Coin Set

To help celebrate the show, the RCM released a subscription set of three silver commemorative coins. These were all worth $30, with two ounces of fine silver each. They were made in proof quality with a mintage of 5,000. Each coin includes two characters from the show rendered in full colour. These depictions are set against an engraved, silver background. On the obverse of each coin is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt that is familiar to anyone who owns Canadian coins.

These are the coins in the set:

The Rabbit of Seville:

In this image, Elmer Fudd is shocked to see the flowery “hair cut” his barber Bugs Bunny has given him. The scene is taken from the much-loved short of the same name.

2015 Canada $30 Looney Tunes Classic Scenes 2oz

2015 Canada $30 Looney Tunes - Fast and Furryous 2oz

Fast and Furry-ous:

This coin features a scene from the very first Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner short. In it, the Road Runner has a knowing smile on his face, as he stops just short of the lid that Wile E. Coyote is trying to hit him with.

Birds Anonymous:

Sylvester and Tweety appear in this coin’s image. Sylvester stands with his hand around Tweety and eyes wide open, creating the impression that the viewer has just caught him in the act of capturing the cartoon canary.

Looney Tunes Merrie Melodies $20 Coin

Additionally, the RCM issued a $20 silver coin named Merrie Melodies, after Looney Tunes’ musical sister show. It is another beautiful design provided by Warner Bros. Like the set, this coin is made from 99.9% pure silver and is available in proof quality. The mintage for this 1-ounce coin was 12,500.

The reverse image of this coin is a collection of favourite characters from the show. They pop out of the design thanks to their full-colour painting. Bugs Bunny stands in the centre with his arms outstretched. Tweety sits on his head and the Tasmanian Devil looks out from below Bugs. On the left, Pepé Le Pew and Pussyfoot make an appearance. To the right of Bugs, Daffy Duck and Sylvester bear wide smiles.

The Looney Tunes gang are set in front of a silver, engraved design featuring the name of the show repeated in a pattern, along with the words “20 Dollars” and “2015” engraved on it. On the obverse, there is the familiar portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
