Description

2001 International Year of the Volunteer Dime

Celebrating the contributions of millions of Canadians who volunteered their time and energy towards making this country and our provinces better places for all.

50 years ago, mothers from all over Hamilton, Ontario collected dimes in an effort to find a cure for polio. Their sincere efforts made a huge and direct contribution to the discovery of the vaccine. Their work did not waiver and they continue to respond to new areas of need. These "Marching Mothers" exemplified volunteerism and instilled the belief that even the simplest deed can come a long way.

Celebrate this selfless act with this Volunteer silver proof 10 cents coin. Also, the obverse design comes with a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that's created by Dora de Pedry-Hunt and Ago Aarand.
