The caribou's entry to the 25-cent coin goes way back to 1936, when a change in the sovereign's picture on the currency that was in circulation prompted the government of Canada to modify the reverse side of coins. In line with this, in 1937, Emanuel Hahn's image of the caribou was utilized in the 25-cent coin.
