What types of coins does Colonial Acres buy?
Can I sell an inherited coin collection if I know nothing about coins?
Yes. Many inherited collections are brought in by people who are not collectors themselves. Keep the coins, albums, envelopes, packaging and notes together whenever possible. There is no need to identify every item before contacting us. Avoid cleaning or reorganizing the collection based only on appearance.
Do I need an appointment?

Is the in-store purchase evaluation free?
Yes. Colonial Acres provides free in-store purchase evaluations for customers who are considering selling their items. One of our experienced buyers will examine the material and explain what Colonial Acres may be interested in purchasing. You are not required to accept the offer.
Should I clean old or dirty coins before selling them?
No. Cleaning, polishing or chemically treating a coin can permanently change its surface and may reduce its collector value. Leave coins in their existing condition. The same principle applies to banknotes: do not wash, press, laminate or tape them.
Can you determine the value from photographs?
Photographs can help identify the general type of material and determine the next step, but they may not show authenticity, cleaning, fine condition details, edge damage or other important characteristics. A final purchase offer will require a closer examination of the actual items.
How is a purchase offer determined?
An offer may consider authenticity, rarity, condition, collector demand, precious-metal content, completeness, certification, original packaging and current market conditions. Different items within the same collection may be assessed in different ways.
Can I mail my collection to Colonial Acres?

Does Colonial Acres buy jewellery and sterling silverware?
Colonial Acres considers gold and silver jewellery, sterling silver cutlery, flatware and other precious-metal items. These items are evaluated differently from collectible coins and paper money. Include them in your inquiry or bring them to the store for review.
Is auction consignment better than selling directly?
