How Selling to Colonial Acres Works

Selling a coin collection does not need to be complicated. For most customers, the easiest way to begin is to bring the collection directly to our Kitchener store.

1. Bring In Your Coins or Collection

Visit our store during regular weekday buying hours. No appointment is required for a standard purchase evaluation. Bring the collection as it is, including any albums, holders, packaging, certificates or collector notes.

2. We Examine the Material

One of our experienced buyers will review the items based on factors such as authenticity, condition, rarity, precious-metal content, collector demand and completeness.

3. Review the Purchase Offer

We will explain which items Colonial Acres is interested in purchasing and provide an offer based on the material and current market conditions. You can ask questions and decide whether you would like to sell.

There is no need to call or complete a form before a standard store visit. Please contact us in advance
when mailing items, bringing a very large collection, travelling a significant distance or requesting
assistance because of mobility concerns.

Free In-Store Purchase Evaluations

Bring your coins or collection to our Kitchener store for a free purchase evaluation. One of our experienced buyers will review your items and explain what Colonial Acres may be interested in purchasing.

No appointment is required. Our buying team is available Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you are travelling from out of town or bringing a large collection or estate, we recommend calling ahead to confirm our hours before making the trip.

Preparing Your Coin Collection for Evaluation

A little organization can make the evaluation process faster, but there is no need to create a professional inventory.

Before bringing in your collection

  • Leave coins and banknotes in albums when they are already organized.
  • Keep certified coins inside their holders.
  • Keep Royal Canadian Mint boxes and certificates with the correct items.
  • Save envelopes, labels, receipts and notes left by the collector.
  • Keep gold and silver coins separate when you can identify them.
  • Place loose coins in containers or bags that will not tear during transport.
  • Contact us before bringing a significant number of boxes or a complete estate.

Please do not

  • Clean or polish coins
  • Test coins with chemicals
  • Remove coins from sealed or certified holders
  • Use tape or glue on coins or banknotes
  • Throw away original packaging
  • Separate items solely because one looks newer or shinier
  • Mail valuable items without contacting Colonial Acres first

Cleaning can permanently alter a coin’s surface and may reduce its collector value. Leave tarnished, toned or dirty-looking coins in their present condition.

Mailing Items From Elsewhere in Canada

Customers outside the Kitchener area may be able to mail items to Colonial Acres for evaluation. Please contact us before shipping and provide a list or description of the items you would like to sell.

Include your name, address, telephone number and email address inside the package. If you accept our purchase offer, payment can be sent by cheque or e-transfer. Items that are not purchased will be returned according to the arrangements confirmed before shipping.

Please do not mail coins, banknotes or other valuables until you have spoken with our team and received shipping instructions.
