How Selling Your Bullion Works

Bring Your Bullion to Our Store

Visit Colonial Acres Coins at 991 Victoria Street North in Kitchener during our regular appraisal hours. No appointment is necessary.

Meet With an Experienced Appraiser

An appraiser will sit down with you and examine your bullion. Depending on the item, we may consider its metal, weight, purity, authenticity, condition and current market demand.

Receive a Purchase Offer

Once your items have been assessed, we will explain our purchase offer. You are free to accept or decline—there is no obligation to sell.

Complete the Sale

If you accept the offer, our staff will walk you through the remaining steps and complete the transaction.

How Is Bullion Value Determined?

Unlike collectible coins, which may carry additional value because of their rarity or condition, most bullion is valued primarily for its precious-metal content.

Our appraisers may consider:

  • The type of precious metal
  • The item’s weight
  • Its stated or tested purity
  • Current precious-metal market prices
  • The manufacturer or issuing mint
  • The item’s authenticity and condition
  • Current demand for the particular product

Because precious-metal prices change regularly, the value of bullion can fluctuate. An in-person assessment allows our appraisers to examine your actual items and provide a current purchase offer.

Preparing Bullion for an Assessment

You do not need to clean or polish your bullion before visiting us. Cleaning coins or removing products from their original packaging could affect their condition or collectibility.

If possible:

  • Keep coins, bars and wafers in their original packaging.
  • Bring any certificates, assay cards or receipts you have.
  • Keep different metals grouped separately.
  • Do not clean, polish or alter the items.
  • Bring valid government-issued photo identification.

You do not need to organize everything perfectly. If you are unsure about an item, bring it along and our appraisers can take a look.

Selling Bullion FAQs

Do I need an appointment to sell bullion?

No. Appraisers are available at the Colonial Acres store Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Simply bring your bullion to the Kitchener location during those hours. If you have an especially large collection or are travelling from out of town, calling ahead is recommended.

What types of bullion does Colonial Acres buy?

Colonial Acres buys many types of gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion, including coins, bars and wafers. Products may come from the Royal Canadian Mint or other recognized mints and manufacturers. Bring your items to the store so an appraiser can identify and assess them.

Is the bullion assessment free?

Yes. Colonial Acres provides a complimentary in-store assessment when you are considering selling bullion. The appraiser will examine your items and prepare a no-obligation purchase offer. Currently, we do not offer written appraisals for insurance purposes.

Should I clean my bullion before bringing it in?

No. Do not clean, polish or alter bullion coins or bars. Cleaning can damage their surfaces and may reduce any collectible value they possess. Leave items in their original capsules, assay cards or packaging whenever possible.

Can I sell inherited bullion without an appraisal?

Yes. You do not need to obtain a separate appraisal first. Colonial Acres can identify and assess the bullion at its Kitchener store and provide a purchase offer. Bring any original packaging, assay cards or supporting documentation you have, but do not worry if these are unavailable.
