DC-13c 1898 Dominion $1 Various-Boville, Series R, Outward ONEs, Check Letter D, BCS Certified F-18 (Holes, Tears). Serial Number 943666

In 1897, the government of Canada decided to transfer its banknote printing business from the British American Banknote Co. to the American Banknote Co, New York. A branch of the American Banknote Co. was then established in Ottawa to primarily handle the government banknote printing.

After the Dominion of Canada of Canada $1 and $2 notes were printed by the American Banknote Co., the notes soon went under modifications for a 1898 release. The modifications took place to better distinguish the $1 from the $2 by changing the original $1 green tint colour to a light brown.

Face Design: At left: Ishbel Hamilton-Gordon, Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair; centre: a log drive on a Canadian river; at right: John Hamilton-Gordon, Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair (Governor-General of Canada from 1893 to 1898)

Back Design: Lathework, counters, and Parliament Building, view of the Centre Block from the front gate. ONEs are curved outward.
