Description

1893 USA Columbian Exposition Isabella Quarter UNC+ (MS-62) Lightly Cleaned

The 1893 Isabella Quarters were produced for the World's Columbian Exposition at the suggestion of the Board of Lady Managers. The Columbian Exposition Half Dollar had already been produced and was being sold to the public as a souvenir coin for $1. The Isabella quarters were also sold for $1, and seen as a worse value. Because of this, the sales were much lower, and a portion of the 40,000 originally minted were returned to the Mint for melting, leaving a final mintage of 24,214.

Obverse: Portrait of Queen Isabella of Spain facing left
Reverse: A representation of women's industry depicting a female holding a distaff and spindle.

Specifications:
Engraver: Charles Edward Barber
Composition: 0.900 silver
Weight: 6.25 g
Diameter: 24.3 mm
Edge: Reeded
Mintage: 24,214
