Description

LC-15A1 (1832) Lower Canada T.S. Brown & Co., Importers of Hardwares Montreal Token ICCS Certified F-15

These halfpennies were issued by Thomas Storrow Brown, a Montreal hardware merchant, who had led the Fils de la Liberte in the rebellion of 1837. When the rebellion was quashed, he fled to the United States, where he remained until he was granted amnesty in 1844. The tokens were condemned by "Le Populaire" as a profiteering scheme, but were better than the brass pieces that were in circulation at the time.

15A1 Variety: The "S" of IMPORTERS is located close to "Co", and the period is located under the "O" of "Co"
