The centenary of the First World War serves as an opportunity to reflect on how Australia has developed as a country, from a dominion of the British Empire, to an independent, courageous nation, proud of its own distinct persona. The Australian Government and most of the population were unwavering in their support of Britain and her allies, and a huge wave of patriotism and support for 'King and Country' swept across the nation.
Each coin in the three-coin set is struck from 1/2oz of pure silver in proof quality.
Answering the Call
The coin's reverse features three Australian men at the recruiting office signing up to enlist in the First World War. A coloured representation of an Australian soldier in uniform is helping them to fill out the enlistment paperwork. The design includes an engraving of an original attestation paper used to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force. The inscription '1914 - Answering the Call', a red poppy motif, and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
Farewell to Family
The coin's reverse features an Australian soldier saying goodbye to his crying daughter on the wharf while he waits to board the boat to take him away to war. The inscription '1914 - Farewell to Family', a red poppy motif, and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
Australia's First Action
The coin's reverse features an Australian soldier running through vegetation while under fire during the fighting for Bita Paka wireless station. The inscription '1914 - Australia's First Action', a red poppy motif and The Perth Mint's traditional 'P' mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
The obverse of each Australian legal tender coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the Denomination.
No more than 5,000 of The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series 2014 1/2oz Silver Proof Three-Coin Set will be released by The Perth Mint.
The three-coin set is presented in a round plastic tray which fits inside a beautifully illustrated shipper featuring First World War photography, and is accompanied by a booklet containing information and imagery from the First World War. The booklet contains a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

A reprint of pages in the Sydney Morning Herald dated 4 August 1914, which featured the declaration of war story, will be dispatched with the first Three-Coin Set in 2014.
