Princess Jasmine is the heroine character of Disney's 1992 and 31st animated feature film Aladdin. Jasmine is an independent-minded young woman who isn't going to be married off to anyone, but is determined to marry for love.
The movie Aladdin based on a Middle Eastern folk tale found in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (aka The Arabian Nights). It tells the story of a street smart young thief in the mythical city of Agrabah, who meets and falls in love with the Sultan's beautiful daughter Princess Jasmine.
Confined within the palace, Jasmine must choose a suitor of noble blood by the time she is sixteen, because that is the law. She keeps rejecting her suitors, as she wants to marry for love and ends up running away from home in disguise, and meeting the handsome young market boy Aladdin. He is an impoverished but kind-hearted thief who is entranced by the Sultan's daughter, Princess Jasmine.
Driving the storyline is the giant-blue Genie of the lamp, who grants Aladdin three wishes. Using his first wish to become Prince Ali-Ababwa, he visits Jasmine and successfully woos her during their magic carpet ride together. But Jafar reveals Aladdin's true identity to Jasmine and makes her a slave. Despite his banishment to the ends of the Earth, Aladdin returns to the kingdom to save his beloved princess, and in so doing proves that even as a commoner he has the bravery, honesty and intelligence to secure her heart.
