The SML’s iconic maple leaf first appeared on the Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion coin, where the design made its debut 45 years ago – an anniversary that is celebrated on the 2024 Super Incuse Gold Maple Leaf coin, the companion piece to this SML.
The coin’s reverse features Walter Ott’s Silver Maple Leaf (SML) bullion design. Struck incuse and backed by a “maple burst” field pattern, the iconic sugar maple leaf is plated with yellow gold and reaches a depth of 1.5 millimetres. The field pattern repeats on the coin’s obverse, where yellow gold plating highlights the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
