British India 1906 Half Rupee EF-AU (EF45)

During the mid-Edwardian era, British India was marked by rising political tension and the early growth of organized nationalism. Under the reign of Edward VII, British colonial authorities implemented controversial policies such as the Partition of Bengal, which divided the region along largely religious lines and was widely seen as an attempt to weaken nationalist unity. This decision sparked widespread protest, including the Swadeshi movement, which encouraged the boycott of British goods and the promotion of Indian industry. Organizations like the Indian National Congress became more active and assertive during this period, reflecting a shift from moderate reform efforts toward stronger demands for self-governance. Although British rule remained firmly in place, the mid-Edwardian years were a crucial turning point in the development of India’s independence movement.
