Great Britain 1899B Trade Dollar F-VF (F-15)

The 1899 British Trade Dollar was a silver coin issued for use in the Far East, particularly in British-controlled territories such as Hong Kong, the Straits Settlements, and China. It was minted to facilitate trade in regions where Spanish and Mexican silver dollars were commonly used. It was introduced in 1895 to compete with other widely used silver trade coins in Asia, such as the Mexican Peso and the U.S. Trade Dollar. The 1899 issue was struck at Bombay (marked with a small "B"). Coins without a mint mark were likely struck in London.

Obverse: ritannia standing facing left, holding a trident in her right hand and a shield with the Union Jack in her left, with a merchant ship in the background. The inscription "ONE DOLLAR" is displayed at the bottom, along with Chinese and Jawi (Malay-Arabic script) characters.
Reverse: A detailed floral pattern with the Chinese symbol for longevity at the center, surrounded by an ornate border.
