UC-13 1833 Upper Canada Commercial Change Half Penny Token Fine (F12)

This token is attributed to Watkins & Harris, a hardware firm that operated in the 1830s in Toronto. In 1829, Thomas Dennie Harris moved to York (Toronto) to manage a branch hardware store owned by John Watkins of Kingston. By 1832, the officially formed a business partnership under the name Watkins & Harris. The partnership was short lived, however, and dissolved in 1838. Harris continued within the retail operation independently, eventually partnering with his son, and became "Harris and Son."

Obverse: A sloop (a sailboat defined by a single mast, a mainsail behind the mast, and one headsail in front of it) sailing to the right with the denomination above, and legend below.
Reverse: Crossed shovels above a hammer, tongs, and anvil, with a saw to the left, a vice to the right, the legend above, and the date below.
