Sweden 1874 2 Ore Extra Fine (EF-40)
The Sweden 1874 2 Ore coin was issued during the reign of King Oscar II, who ruled from 1872 to 1907. This period marked a time of modernization and industrial growth in Sweden, as the country continued to strengthen its economy and national identity within the Scandinavian Monetary Union (SMU). The SMU, established in 1873 between Sweden and Denmark (with Norway joining in 1875), created a shared currency system based on the gold standard. The 1874 2 Ore was one of the earliest bronze coins struck under this new monetary system.
Obverse: Crowned King's monogram. King's motto above, and Stockholm mintmark below, near rim.
