The Sherbrooke Regional Agricultural Exhibition -- better known as the Sherbrooke Fair -- was an annual showcase for local crafts, produce, and industry for over a hundred years in Sherbrooke, Québec. Sadly, the Fair declined through the 1950s and 1960s, and only limped past its centennial celebration in 1985. By 1997, it had no agricultural component at all, and in 1998, its corporation was dissolved. Still, it remains a little piece of Canadian history, one of many local agricultural festivals that were popular through the Victorian period and into the early 20th century.
This nickel token, worth $1 in the municipality of Estrie, was minted in 1985 for the Fair's 100th anniversary. The obverse shows the logo of the Sherbrooke Fair Committee, whilst the reverse celebrates 100 years of celebration.
