1981 Winkler, MB, 75th Anniversary Commemorative Dollar Token
Winkler is Manitoba's fourth-largest city, with a population of just under 14,000. Originally part of the nomadic territory of the Anishinaabe people, the area was first permanently settled by Russian Mennonites in 1875. The village of Winkler was established in 1892 by lumber magnate Valentine Winkler, who wanted access to this Mennonite community, and it soon attracted German, Jewish, and English immigrants as well as Mennonites. It was incorporated in 1906.
This dollar token celebrates Winkler's 75th birthday. The design on the reverse honours its agricultural history with a bundle of wheat and scattered carrots.
