Vintage USA Smokey Bear "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires" Aluminum Medallion
Introduced by the United States Forest Service in 1944, Smokey Bear is the star of the longest-running PSA in American history. Virtually every American alive now has grown up with the brown bear in the felt hat who demonstrates fire safety and rightfully declares that, "Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires." This vintage aluminum medallion features Smokey on the obverse and, on the reverse, a list of helpful instructions: Always Break Matches In Two! Be Sure Fires Are Out Cold! Crush All Smokes Dead! The "Forest Fires" line was used from 1947 to 2001, when it was changed to "Wildfires" to include areas other than forests (like grasslands), so the token dates to somewhere within this period.
