1980 Canada Carnaval de Quebec Porte St-Louis Bonhomme Souvenir Token

Held intermittently since 1894, the Québec Winter Carnival (better known in both English and French as Carnaval is an annual festival held in Québec City each year before Lent. Events include outdoor winter sports, a snow sculpture contest, public banquets, dance parties, and a masquerade ball at the historic Château Frontenac. Since 1955, the mascot of Carnaval has been Bonhomme Carnaval, a cheerful snowman dressed in a hat and a ceinture fléchée, a sort of woven sash that is traditional to Québécois and Métis communities.

This souvenir token from the 1980 Carnaval features Bonhomme as he appeared in 1963 marketing, ice skating. The reverse features Porte Saint-Louis, one of Québec's historic fortified gates.
