1884 USA Union Veterans Reunion Buckingham Statue Unveiling Commemorative Token
In 1884, a bronze statue of Connecticut governor William A. Buckingham was unveled at the Connecticut State Capitol. Buckingham took famously good care of soldiers from his state during the Civil War, having told Washington, "Don't let any Connecticut man suffer for want of anything that can be done for him. If it costs money, draw on me for it." The unveiling of his statue was attended by grateful Union veterans.
This commemorative token originated at the unveiling of Buckingham's statue. The reverse shows the governor's bust with the dates of his term in office. The obverse reads, "Reunion of Union Veterans, Unveiling of Buckingham Statue, Hartford, June 18, 1884."
