The Transportation Series from the Royal Canadian Mint focused on Canadian innovations in transportation on land, sea, and rail. This one features the William D. Lawrence, the largest sailing ship ever built in Canada. Despite skepticism that a ship of her size would be unmanageable, the Lawrence turned a solid profit for several years before being sold to Norwegian owners in 1883. After being severely damaged in a storm, the ship was sold as a wreck, but sank off the coast of Senegal while being towed to her final destination. She rests there to this day.
This sterling silver coin features the Lawrence in her glory, all three masts at full sail. Each coin in the Transportation series also features a hologram depicting each form of transportation. This coin has been certified by ICCS and graded PF65.
