1901 Canada Royal Visit Duke & Duchess of Cornwall & York / Boer War Commemorative Medal
The 1901 Royal Visit was undertaken by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (the future George V and Queen Mary). The couple toured Canada from September to October of 1901, travelling from Quebec City to Vancouver and back. The tour commemorated Canada's involvement in the Boer War and included the presentation of thousands of medals.
This antique medallion was a souvenir of the Royal Tour. It features the overlapping busts of George and Mary, facing left. The reverse is a tribute to Canada's participation in the Boer War, showing two soldiers with rifles and the inscription, "For God and Empire." Medallion measures about 55.5mm in diameter and weighs 61.42 grams.
