1964 Canada First Confederation Conference Thomas D'Arcy McGee Bronze Medallion
There were six of these medallions released in 1964, all celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference with a historical image of Provincial House on the reverse and a portrait of one of the Fathers of Confederation on the obverse. This one features Thomas D'Arcy McGee (1825-1868), an Irish-Canadian politician who was so passionate about Confederation he earned the title "Canada's first nationalist." McGee was assassinated outside of his boarding house in Ottawa and was given the very first state funeral in Canadian history.
