1987 Canada Pointe-Claire, QC, Lakeshore Coin Club 25th Anniversary Token
A settlement called Pointe-Claire first appears on maps in 1686. In these early years, the Island of Montreal was controlled by the Sulpicians, a Catholic fraternity dedicated to the education of other priests. Pointe-Claire was one of their first settlements, built around a mill, and slowly a population of French colonists began to grow. By 1713, Pointe-Claire had a parish, and by 1845, it was officially established as a village. In 1855, Pointe-Claire was linked to Montreal by train, and development picked up. Today, it boasts a population of over 30,000 English- and French-speaking people.
