The term "notgeld" (German for "necessity money" or "emergency money") refers to money issued during a time of economic or political crisis. In the 1920s, Germany experienced wild hypeinflation that saw the value of the mark plummet. Unable to keep up with the demand for new notes, notgeld was issued in higher and higher denominations -- culminating in notgeld worth trillions of marks!
This group lot includes twenty-four German notgeld, mostly in small denominations from the early 1920s. Each note features beautiful, vibrant artwork and is in excellent condition.
