1936 marked the beginning of the modern era of proof sets in America, wherein each denomination of circulating coin was struck and presented as a beautiful proof version in a cohesive set. The original sets -- which actually would have been ordered as five individual coins -- were generally packaged in cellophane and then placed in a cardboard box or envelope. Their low mintage makes them a sought-after item for many numismatists.

This novelty set recreates the first true US proof set in silver-plate. The "coins" presented are not really coins -- they are plated medallions unaffiliated with the United States Mint and United States Government that serve as a "tribute" to the original set.
