Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses two volcanoes: Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, and Mauna Loa, the world's largest shield volcano. Established in 1916 as Hawaii National Park, the site has since been designated as both an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site. This base metal token, minted in 1972, is one of a set celebrating the 100th anniversary of the United States National Park Service. The first National Park, designated in 1872, was Yellowstone.
