Great Britain 1803 George III 1/3 Guinea .917 Gold PCGS Certified EF40
The one-third Guinea was only produced from 1797 to 1813, as a response to the Napoleonic Wars. They feature the portrait of King George III with legend FIDEI DEFENSOR BRITANNARUM REX, which translates "Defender of the Faith, King of Britain." Ironically, the first British monarch to use this title was Henry VIII, who was awarded it by Pope Leo X for his book about the sacramental nature of marriage.
One-third Guineas weigh about 2.8 grams and are composed of about .917 gold --- considered "pure" for the time. This one has been certified by PCGS as Extra Fine (EF40).
