Vintage National Ballet of Canada "In Acknowledgement of Your Support" Medallion in Case (issues)
Apparently minted as a thank-you to supporters of the National Ballet of Canada, this base metal medallion is an interesting collector's item for anyone invested in dance or the performing arts. The obverse shows two ballet dancers in relief and reads, "The National Ballet of Canada." The reverse depicts St. Lawrence Hall in Toronto, which acts as the head office and rehearsal centre for the National Ballet. The token comes in its original plush, violet case with Jacques Cartier Mint branding.
The National Ballet of Canada was founded in 1951 by Sydney Mulqueen, Pearl Whitehead, and Aileen Woods. Today, it is one of the top international ballet companies in the world, with 76 dancers and its own orchestra.
Please note, this second-hand item exhibits some signs of wear and handling. In particular, the lining on the inside of the case lid tends to come loose due to old glue.
