Russia 1914BC 20 Kopeks Extra Fine (EF-40)

The Russia 1914 BC 20 Kopeks was issued under Tsar Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia, and represents the sudden end of the Russian Empire’s economic stability. Struck in .500 silver, it was the final standard issue 20 Kopeks minted before the full financial impact of World War I was felt. While the denomination continued to be produced for a few more years, the 1914 issue was the last coin struck before massive military expenditures forced the empire to abandon the silver standard, triggering inflation, metal shortages, and widespread economic turmoil that contributed to the unrest leading to the Russian Revolution. The coin bears the mint mark “BC”, representing the initials of mintmaster Viktor Smirnov, who oversaw the Saint Petersburg Mint during this pivotal period.
