Wilhelm II (or William, or Willem) reigned just under nine years, making him the shortest-ruling monarch in Dutch history. 1848 was a year of widespread revolution across Europe, and the Netherlands was no exception. Wilhelm gave in to the revolutionaries' wishes, agreeing to a constitution that restricted his royal power in favour of a representative assembly.
Half gulden from this period were made from .945 silver and weigh about 10 grams. The obverse shows Wilhelm's bust, whilst the reverse features the Dutch crowned coat of arms.
