Netherlands 1848 Wilhelm II 1/2 Gulden (DOD)
Wilhelm II (or William, or Willem) reigned just under nine years, making him the shortest-ruling monarch in Dutch history. 1848 was a year of widespread revolution across Europe, and the Netherlands was no exception. Wilhelm gave in to the revolutionaries' wishes, agreeing to a constitution that restricted his royal power in favour of a representative assembly.
Half gulden from this period were made from .945 silver and weigh about 5 grams. The obverse shows Wilhelm's bust, whilst the reverse features the Dutch crowned coat of arms.
