Ferdinand II was Holy Roman Emperor from 1619 to 1637. A zealous Catholic, his reign was defined by his struggle against the spread of Protestantism and by the devastation wrought by the Thirty Years' War, which was one of the bloodiest conflicts in Europe's history. 3 kreuzer coins from this period are made of billon, an alloy containing a low percentage of silver.
