German States 1519 Diocese of Constance Hugo von Hohenlandenberg 1 Batzen (DOD)
Hugo von Hohenlandenberg was Bishop of Constance (or Konstanz) from 1496 to 1529. It was, in this period, one of the largest dioceses in Germany, covering, at its peak, about 45,000 km2. Unsurprisingly, it was based in the city of Konstanz, now located in the Baden-Württemberg state of southern Germany. This well-worn batzen displays the eagle surrounded by the titles of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor. The reverse shows the four-fold arms of Constance and Hohenlandenberg.
