Belgium 1833 Leopold I 10 Centimes Fine (F12) DOD
In August of 1830, riots erupted in Brussels and quickly spread throughout Belgium. This was the start of the Belgian Revolution, which would wrest Belgian independence from the Netherlands. The new king was Leopold I, a Bavarian noble who had been ejected by Napoleon and was living contentedly in Britain. Leopold's strong connection to the British crown would, hopefully, deter France from reaching into Belgian territory. He held the throne until his death in 1865 and was succeeded by his son, the infamous Leopold II.
