1946 Canada Hudson's Bay Company HBC 50 Eastern Arctic Trade Token
Aluminum tokens like this were introduced for use in the Eastern Arctic District in 1946, apparently in response to increased traffic in the Arctic due to the Second World War. Denominations came in five cents through one hundred cents -- and in one "White Fox" representing the value of one literal Arctic fox, which was a standard unit of trade amongst the Inuit. Tokens were used until the early 1960s, when they were gradually phased out and replaced with standard Canadian currency.
