DC-26e 1923 Dominion of Canada $2 McCavour-Saunders, Bronze Seal, Group 1, Series J, VG

The 1923 Dominion of Canada $2 note features a portrait of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, who was heir to the British throne at the time. It was the final $2 denomination issued under the Dominion of Canada, with an ornate green reverse highlighting the denomination in elaborate scrollwork. Although more than 70 million were printed, making it relatively common, high-grade examples are much scarcer and remain highly collectible. Dominion notes were discontinued in 1935 when the newly established Bank of Canada took over the exclusive authority to issue paper money. This move centralized Canada’s currency system, providing greater stability, uniformity, and control during a time of economic uncertainty in the Great Depression.
