The Canadian Bank of Commerce was formed in 1867 in Toronto, Ontario, and operated with hundreds of branches across Canada until 1961, when it merged with the Imperial Bank of Canada, to form the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). In 1931, the Toronto headquarters for the bank were completed, and for many years it stood as the tallest building in the British Empire at 34 stories.
Type 2 Signature: The signature of A.E. Arscott has a width 19 mm across.
Face Design: An allegorical group of Mercury in the centre with "Agriculture" at left and "Inventorion to the right.
Back Design: A pastoral landscape of Juno with a bull at left, and Ceres with a herd of goats at right.
