PE-6A1 1855 PEI Fisheries and Agriculture One Cent Token Extra Fine (EF-40)
Hardware merchant James Duncan of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, issued what is thought to be the first Canadian decimal piece in 1855, referred to as a "cent". As this token competed with other half penny tokens which went at 150 to the Spanish dollar, while this piece went at 100 to the dollar, it's possible that they were not as wildly accepted. Later issues were minted on thicker flans, probably to make them more acceptable at the higher value.
Obverse: Date divides the denomination on three lines.
Reverse: Legend on three lines, with the top and bottom lines being curved in semicircles.
6A1 Variety: The 5s in 1855 are plain and have not been recut.
