In the late 1960s, Canada Post issued a collection of fine silver stamps celebrating ships in Canadian waters. Subjects included the 15th-century Matthew captained by John Cabot, the Royal Yacht Britannia, the English Nonsuch that explored Hudson Bay, and the paddle-wheeled Mackenzie River steamers that transported freight through the 19th and early 20th centuries. This issue celebrates the Bluenose, the celebrated racing ship that has graced Canada's 10-cent coins since 1937. The stamp is made of .999 silver and is presented in its original case, which includes some information about the ship.
