France 2016 10 Euro Femmes de France Reine Clotilde .900 Silver in Case (minor wear). Includes COA.

Part of the Paris Mint's Femmes de France series, this stunningly detailed 90% silver coin celebrates the life and legacy of Clotilde, wife and queen of Clovis I, first king of the Franks. Born in 474 in Burgundy, Clotilde straddled the line between Late Classical and Early Medieval history. The Western Roman Empire fell in 476; the regions that had been Roman (and still considered themselves Roman) were being settled by Germanic newcomers. There was a religious divide between these two populations: the Romans were Catholic, and the newcomers, largely, were Arian. Clotilde converted her Frankish husband to Catholicism; she built churches, monasteries, convents, and basilicas, defining the cultural landscape of France. When Clovis died, Clotilde gave away her possessions and spent the rest of her life in quiet prayer. She died in 545 and is buried at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Paris.

This beautifully detailed .900 silver coin features a modern portrait of Clotilde wearing a veil and crown. The reverse depicts the baptism of King Clovis, who is sitting prayerfully in a baptismal font as Bishop Remigius delivers the baptismal rites.
