2014 Canada $5 Tradition of Hunting Seal Fine Silver NGC Certified PF69 UHC (No Tax)
Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's Tradition of Hunting series, this 3/4 ounce fine silver coin depicts two Inuit hunting seal. Sealing has been practiced across the Arctic for at least 4,000 years and is a cornerstone of Inuit culture. Seal meat is rich and calorie-dense, and their bones, teeth, and skins provide essential materials for survival in one of the coldest, harshest, and most food-insecure regions on earth. The act involves finding a hole in the ice and waiting, stone still, potentially for hours. Eventually, a seal will surface to breathe, and the hunters strike with a spear, a harpoon, or a traditional three-pronged leister called a kakivak. The exceptionally detailed reverse design on this silver coin is the work of Coast Salish First Nations artist Darlene Gait and captures Inuit efforts to live in harmony with the sea and all its living things.
This coin has been certified PF69 by NGC.
