Ottawa, ON, Parliament of Canada Copper Souvenir Medallion
In the early years of Canadian history, Parliament shifted around a lot. In 1841, it was in Kingston. In 1844, it was in Montreal. For over a decade, it ping-ponged back and forth between Toronto and Québec City until, finally, in 1857, Queen Victoria chose Ottawa to be Canada's capital. The actual buildings went up starting in 1859, though the iconic Gothic Revival structures we see today are actually the second set, built in 1916 after the originals burned down in a massive fire.
This copper token appears to have been a souvenir of a visit to Parliament, featuring the famous structures, with Peace Tower at centre, on the obverse. The reverse shows a maple leaf and reads "Parliament of Canada" in English and French.
