Vintage Yorkton, SK, Western Development Museum Souvenir Medallion
The Western Development Museum (or WDM) opened in Yorkton in 1949 to curate and preserve western Canadian history. As of today, it maintains a collection of over 75,000 artifacts ranging from pins to entire locomotives across four locations. The oldest, at Yorkton, is focused on stories of western immigration and settlement.
This souvenir token, which clearly dates to sometime after 1949, shows an early tractor on the reverse and a scene of early European settlers communicating with two indigenous people -- presumably Plains Cree or Saulteaux. The text identifies Yorkton as being "Along the Scenic Yellowhead Route."
