1983 Canada Carnaval de Quebec 1973 Bonhomme Souvenir Token (ERROR)
Held intermittently since 1894, the Québec Winter Carnival (better known in both English and French as Carnaval) is an annual festival held in Québec City each year before Lent. Events include outdoor winter sports, a snow sculpture contest, public banquets, dance parties, and a masquerade ball at the historic Château Frontenac. Since 1955, the mascot of Carnaval has been Bonhomme Carnaval, a cheerful snowman dressed in a hat and a ceinture fléchée, a sort of woven sash that is traditional to Québécois and Métis communities.
This souvenir token from the 1983 Carnaval features Bonhomme frolicking happily on the reverse. The obverse actually shows an error -- it was supposed to be the Monument de la Foi, but instead shows the Monument Louis Hébert, a statue of Québec's first (European) apothecary.
