France 2013 10 Euro Notre-Dame de Paris 850th Anniversary .900 Silver Coin (light wear)
One of the grandest -- and certainly the most famous -- examples of medieval Gothic architecture, Notre-Dame de Paris is a towering cathedral located in the heart of Paris, France. It is notable both for its stunningly beautiful architecture -- including its pioneering use of the rib vault and flying buttress, its enormous rose windows, and its abundant sculptural decoration -- and for its cultural significance to the people of France. Construction began in 1163 and continued in stages through to about 1260, with modifications and additions being made throughout the ensuing centuries. It suffered a lot of damage through the French Revolution and largely fell into disrepair, until Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame revived interest in the restoration and preservation of the landmark cathedral. Now, it is a widely recognized and celebrated symbol of Paris and France.
2013 marked the 850th anniversary of the start of construction on Notre-Dame. To celebrate, the Paris Mint released this beautiful .900 silver coin featuring some of the art, sculpture, and symbolism of the famous cathedral. Coin comes in its original packaging with outer sleeve.
Please note, this second-hand item exhibits some signs of wear, age, and handling, including light scratches, scuffs, and dents on the packaging.
