British Virgin Islands 2012 Diamond Jubilee Defender of the Faith $10 .925 Silver Coin (scr.cap)
In 2012, Elizabeth II became the second monarch in a thousand years of British history to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee. To commemorate sixty years on the throne, the British Virgin Islands issued this sterling silver, 28.28-gram collectible coin celebrating Elizabeth as the Defender of the Faith. "Defender of the Faith" is a title that has been part of the full style of English, Scottish, and later British monarchs since the 16th century, when Pope Julius II bestowed it on James IV of Scotland, and Pope Leo X bestowed it, ironically, on Henry VIII of England (who would go on to separate from the Catholic Church and create the Church of England so that he could divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon). Since this schism, "Defender of the Faith" has referred to the monarch as the supreme governor of the Church of England. The coin comes with an informational sheet from the Royal Canadian Mint.
Please note, the capsule exhibits some light scratches and scuffs.
