France 1643 Rose Louis XIII 1/2 Ecu (DOD)
Assuming the throne in 1610 at just nine years old, Louis XIII's reign was marked by conspiracy, ill health, rebellion, and war. Despite this, he and his closest adviser, Cardinal Richelieu (of Three Musketeers fame), managed to hammer the rebellious lords into line, drive back the Spanish threat, expand France's colonial influence, and generally pave the way for France's golden age under his son, the Sun King Louis XIV.
