France 1641 Dombes Gaston d'Orleans Double Tournois (DOD)
Gaston Jean Baptiste was Duke of Orléans from 1626 until his death in 1660. The eldest brother of King Louis XIII, he was, like many eldest brothers of kings, a bit of a rascal. Gaston was forced to flee France not once, not twice, but three times for conspiring against Louis and his Prime Minister, Cardinal Richelieu (of Three Musketeers fame). He died in exile in 1652, stripped of his titles, which went to his nephew Philippe.
